Winter Fun Around Bloomsburg PA

Do you love winter as much as we do? There is so much winter fun around Bloomsburg PA, it is difficult to choose!  Use the Inn at Turkey Hill as your home base, and spend a day or afternoon skiing, tubing, ice skating, ice fishing, you name it! And if you don’t feel like braving the elements, we have some suggestions for a day of fun indoors. If you can’t decide, be sure to ask us; we are happy to help! Here is your guide to winter fun near us.

Skiing, Snowboarding, and Tubing

There are several ski resorts an easy drive from us, including Jack Frost, Camelback, and Sno Mountain, All of them have trails ranging from beginner to black diamond. Rentals are available, as well. If you are looking for some easy-going family fun, all of them have tubing runs. Look for deals available midweek, in particular!

Ice Skating

If you would rather twirl around on the ice, there are options for ice skating both indoors and outdoors. A rink that is entirely outdoors is the Lewisburg Ice Rink. Once the weather is consistently cold enough, the rink opens on the corner of St. Mary and St. Lawrence Streets. There are skate rentals and a warming house with concessions.

For indoor ice skating, the James R. Eister Community Center Ice Rink is the place to go! The rink is home ice to three of the local university hockey teams. There are lessons, rentals, and an area to relax and sip hot cocoa in front of a roaring fire! When was the last time you went skating?

Ice Fishing

Lake Chillisquaque is a short 20-minute drive from the Inn, and (weather and ice permitting) is a wonderful place for ice fishing. The name of the lake comes from a Native American term meaning “song of the wild goose.” It is a 165-acre reservoir located in the Montour Preserve. It is home to northern pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, perch, and walleye. The largest fish ever pulled from the lake came from under the ice! Do be aware that the ice thickness is not monitored and can vary greatly in different areas of the lake, so you are fishing at your own risk.

Cross Country Skiing and Hiking

The trails that are great for hiking in the summer and fall are perfect for cross country skiing in the winter when there is enough snow. Rickett’s Glen State Park has 26 miles of trails, with varying ranges of difficulty. You may also get to see frozen waterfalls while you are out! Montour Preserve also has hiking trails that can be used for cross-country skiing.

Indoor Fun

Maybe you just want to stay inside and keep warm! Two of our favorite day trips include a visit to Bill’s Bike Barn and the Artspace Gallery. Bill’s is an amazing array of antiques, collectibles, and vintage items from almost every conceivable genre, including dinosaurs, Disney, and World War 2. The Gallery always has interesting exhibits in mediums including ceramics, fused glass, jewelry, photography, and, of course, paintings.

All of these winter fun activities near Bloomsburg are sure to make winter your favorite season of all! At the end of the day, before settling into your cozy room at the Inn at Turkey Hill, stop by the Brewpub and enjoy a pint and some great food. Share your adventures of the day, and plan tomorrow’s activities. Doesn’t that sound perfect?
