Columbia-Montour Counties Present Covered Bridge Bus Tour

Sit back and enjoy the scenery as you are transported back
in time on this spring’s Covered Bridge Bus Tour, sponsored by the
Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau, Saturday, May 16, 2015. The tour begins in
Bloomsburg, making The Inn, Farmhouse and Brewing Co at Turkey Hill an ideal
base for the weekend.
13 bridges will be visited this year as the tour travels
throughout the counties, allowing visitors time to leisurely explore the
bridges and take photos. The Columbia-Montour area is home to 25 historic bridges,
including one of only two remaining twin covered bridges in the country, known
as the East and West Paden Bridges, located in Forks, PA. Famous for their
Burr-Arch design and named for a local sawmill operator, the bridges span
pretty Huntington Creek. The smaller East Paden measures just 79 feet, West
Paden stretches to 103 feet. Today the bridges take only foot traffic and are
surrounded by a lovely park. It’s here where the tour will stop for a picnic
lunch, included in the ticket price.

For those who would like to explore the rest of the bridges
on their own, the Visitors Bureau has a downloadable brochure on their website
that includes a driving map with turn-by-turn instructions. The staff at The
Inn at Turkey Hill is quite knowledgeable about the covered bridges, in case
you have questions or wish more specific driving instructions.
And if you’d like to take a little of that history home with
you, the Visitors bureau sells a yearly 500-piece jigsaw puzzle, with a new
addition revealed every September. The 2014 puzzle features the Jud Christian
Covered Bridge which crossed Little fishing creek. Puzzles are $12 each, with
$2 from every sale going to the Columbia County Covered Bridge Association.
