Snow forecast for Bloomsburg means it’s time to think about winter fun at the Montour Preserve, less than 20 miles west of the Inn, Farmhouse, and Brewing Co. at Turkey Hill. You don’t need any special equipment just to experience the secrets some of the Preserve’s hiking and walking trails reveal in winter. To learn more about them, plan to take part in ‘A Winter Wandering’ on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Jon Beam will lead a winter walk through the Preserve, pointing out signs of animals and plant life. You will learn about some ways wildlife adapts to winter conditions when the thermometer dips and usual sources of food are scarce. Bring binoculars if you wish, and don’t forget your camera or phone for pictures!
January and February are the perfect months for outdoor adventures in Northeastern Pennsylvania. For guests who enjoy cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, the Montour Preserve’s Chilisuagi, Goose Woods and Wildlife Management trails are perfect for a snowy adventure when Mother Nature cooperates. Ice fishing on Lake Chillisquaque is popular, too (you will need to obtain the permit needed to fish in the Goose Cove Wildlife Refuge Area).
